RESOLUTION INTRODUCED BY EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE TO AUTHORIZE A STIPEND FOR AN ASSISTANT COUNTY ATTORNEY
WHEREAS: The Department of Family Services has traditionally been staffed by four (4) attorneys; and
WHEREAS: Currently there is one open position for an attorney which was not filled following the resignation of an attorney several years ago, leaving only three (3) staff attorneys to cover the workload in that department; and
WHEREAS: The current volume of cases in the areas of Child Abuse and Child Neglect has increased along with increases in Juvenile Delinquent prosecutions occasioned by Raise the Age Legislation; and
WHEREAS: The Office of the Sullivan County Attorney has also consolidated our Federal Litigation bringing more of those cases in house thereby significantly reducing our cost for outside litigation counsel which cost has been incurred for more than twenty (20) years; and
WHEREAS: There are an increased number of cases to be addressed involving mental illness, and Adult Protective Services; and
WHEREAS: In an effort to more effectively adjudicate cases involving indicated cases of Child abuse and neglect the Office of the County Attorney is more aggressively prosecuting these hearings both in Family Court and in Administrative tribunals; and
WHEREAS: These adjusted workloads can be handled by assigning additional work to current staff attorneys and avoiding the need to add an additional full time Attorney; NOW THEREFORE IT IS
