RESOLUTION INTRODUCED BY THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE TO AMEND SALARY FOR AN ASSISTANT COUNTY ATTORNEY.
WHEREAS: The Office of the Sullivan County Attorney currently has a position open for an Assistant County Attorney I; and

WHEREAS: The Office of the County Attorney, in conjunction with the Commissioner of Human Resources recently engaged an extensive and exhaustive search, , seeking to fill this vacancy; and

WHEREAS: Following a search spanning more than ten (10) months there has been only one (1) applicant for the job who possessed good experience in litigation, however was a resident of Orange County and accepted a very similar position in the Orange County Attorney's Office; and

WHEREAS: Despite such exhaustive search the County has been unsuccessful in attracting the quality of candidates necessary to handle the depth, breadth and diversity of issues confronted daily by the Office of the County Attorney; and

WHEREAS: The current budget has listed the Assistant County Attorney I position with a salary of eighty-thousand- five hundred ($80,500.00) per annum; and

WHEREAS: The current market for attorneys with the depth and breadth of experience necessary to address the needs of the office dictates a higher starting salary; and

WHEREAS: The Office of the County Attorney has been able to identify a potential candidate, with nearly (30) years of professional litigation experience; and

WHEREAS: The Office of the County Attorney has increased the number of cases handled "in house" thereby reducing the amount paid to outside counsel; and
