RESOLUTION INTRODUCED BY THE PLANNING, REAL PROPERTY AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE TO AUTHORIZE THE APPROVAL AND ADOPTION OF THE SULLIVAN COUNTY COMPREHENSIVE HOUSING STRATEGY

WHEREAS, County of Sullivan ("County") recognizes the importance of housing to the economy, character, and well-being of the area; and
WHEREAS, the County recognizes that a strategy was needed to address the various housing sectors in the County and plan for the development and preservation of quality, affordable homeownership opportunities for residents; and
WHEREAS, the Sullivan County Legislature ("Legislature") provided funding in FY22 to self-fund the study and provide the capital needed to address this critical resource; and
WHEREAS, during the spring and summer of 2022 with guidance from the Sullivan County Housing Task Force, the County worked with czb, LLC to broadly understand the regional and localized influences on the housing market and how they shape the housing needs of county; and
WHEREAS, the County provided opportunity for public input, including a countywide survey, a public meeting on the draft plan was held on August 22, 2022 and the draft plan was presented to the Legislature on September 8, 2022 at the Health & Family Services Committee Meeting; and
WHEREAS, the Legislature has reviewed the Draft Plan.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Sullivan County Legislature declares that the preservation and creation of housing opportunities that meet the needs of our residents is of critical importance and among the top priorities for economic development initiatives in the County; and
