Title: RESOLUTION INTRODUCED BY PLANNING, COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT, REAL PROPERTY, CAPITAL PLANNING, AND BUDGETING COMMITTEE FOR THE COUNTY TO JOIN THE SULLIVAN O&W RAIL TRAIL ALLIANCE WHEREAS, Sullivan County contains a section of the former O&W railroad corridor; and WHEREAS, Sullivan County worked with the Sullivan County municipalities through which the O&W travels in the creation of the Sullivan O&W Rail Trail Feasibility Study; and WHEREAS, Sullivan O&W Rail Trail Feasibility Study details recommendations for building out the rail trail (Trail) in Sullivan County by connecting the existing developed sections to create a 50+/- mile long facility from Mamakating through Rockland, and the creation of a new trail along the former O&W spur line traveling south from Monticello; and WHEREAS, the Legislature of Sullivan County recognizes the Trail provides a multitude of community benefits including enhanced quality of life, better public health, stronger property values, economic development, s...

RESOLUTION INTRODUCED BY PLANNING, COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT, REAL PROPERTY, CAPITAL PLANNING, AND BUDGETING COMMITTEE FOR THE COUNTY TO JOIN THE SULLIVAN O&W RAIL TRAIL ALLIANCE

WHEREAS, Sullivan County contains a section of the former O&W railroad corridor; and
WHEREAS, Sullivan County worked with the Sullivan County municipalities through which the O&W travels in the creation of the Sullivan O&W Rail Trail Feasibility Study; and
WHEREAS, Sullivan O&W Rail Trail Feasibility Study details recommendations for building out the rail trail (Trail) in Sullivan County by connecting the existing developed sections to create a 50+/- mile long facility from Mamakating through Rockland, and the creation of a new trail along the former O&W spur line traveling south from Monticello; and
WHEREAS, the Legislature of Sullivan County recognizes the Trail provides a multitude of community benefits including enhanced quality of life, better public health, stronger property values, economic development, sales tax revenue, and alternative transportation, and that these benefits will increase as the trail is expanded and improved; and

WHEREAS, Sullivan County has been engaged with other Trail municipalities and stakeholders in implementation of the Sullivan O&W Rail Trail Feasibility Study, collaborating on trail branding, marketing and promotion, clean-up, grant-seeking, and other activities; and

WHEREAS, the Feasibility Study recommends "the creation of a trail coalition... to assist municipalities operating and maintaining the trail," further recommending that such group be established as a non-profit 501c3 corporation to accept contributions, and

WHEREAS, Trail stakeholders, including representatives of Sullivan County, have met to plan for the creation of such a group, determining to establish the Sullivan O&W Rail Trail Alliance (Alliance) for the purposes of conducting project development, fundraising and grant seeking, maintenance, marketing an...
