WHEREAS, the Department of Social Services conducted a review with funeral homes and interested parties to consider amending the Indigent Burial Program policy regarding crematory costs by adding an exceptional rate for the rare occasions when the remains of an individual exceed 450 lbs. thereby necessitating an out-of-County transport to a facility that could accommodate a cremation, in excess of 450 lbs.; and
WHEREAS, the cremation rate for a direct cremation is $1,200 and the permitted crematory fee is up to $375.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that Resolution 331-20 is hereby amended to include an exceptional rate for direct cremation for individuals as described above; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that in cases where the remains exceed 450 lbs. the actual crematory fee up to $575 may be reimbursed and loaded mileage to transport to the crematory may be billed at a rate of $2.00 per mile, to be effective January 1, 2022.
