RESOLUTION INTRODUCED BY THE PUBLIC SAFETY AND LAW ENFORCEMENT COMMITTEE TO AUTHORIZE AND FUND PHASE I OF THE GOVERNMENT CENTER CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE SECURITY IMPROVEMENT PLAN
WHEREAS, in light of national and global trends in targeted violence, it is imperative to enhance the safety and security of the Sullivan County Government Center to protect employees, visitors, and the general public; and
WHEREAS, improving security measures at the Government Center will also enhance the overall customer experience by ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all who enter; and
WHEREAS, the Sullivan County Division of Public Safety has developed Phase I of the Government Center Critical Infrastructure Security Improvement Plan to address these concerns through targeted staffing and technological enhancements; and
WHEREAS, Phase I of this plan includes the following key components:
? The creation of two (2) new Corrections Deputy positions within the Sheriff's Office to increase on-site law enforcement staffing for enhanced security screening and customer service;
? The creation of one (1) Building Safety Monitor position to provide civilian visitor-greeting, way-finding, and general assistance;
? The purchase of a weapons detection system and lease of associated software support and services to facilitate the screening of all employees, visitors, and their baggage; and
WHEREAS, salaries for these new positions shall be set in accordance with existing salary schedules and/or collective bargaining agreements; and
