RESOLUTION INTRODUCED BY THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE DAFFODIL PROJECT

WHEREAS, The Daffodil Project aspires to build a worldwide Living Holocaust Memorial by planting 1.5 million daffodils in memory of the children who perished in the Holocaust and in support for children suffering in humanitarian crises in the world today; and

WHEREAS, a group of local residents, led by Dr. Hope Blecher Croney and benefactor J. Klinger, have endeavored to plant daffodils in various areas of Sullivan County, as part of the international Daffodil Project; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Croney and Mr. Klinger have asked the County of Sullivan to officially join them in this effort, with installation costs and coordination completely covered by them; and

WHEREAS, the County has identified the Sullivan County Government Center in Monticello as a potential location for a daffodil garden;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the County of Sullivan hereby acknowledges the importance of remembering those killed in the Holocaust and other genocides; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the County will participate in The Daffodil Project by making a suitable portion of the Government Center’s property available in 2025 for volunteers to plant and maintain the daffodil garden, subject to approval by the Division of Public Works Commissioner.
