Good morning. I hear that the County Manager went down to the ACC yesterday and told the staff that Infinite Care is pulling out of their contract, and that admissions to the facility have been frozen because they “don’t know what they’re doing with the building yet.” Before you cut me off, I assure you that my comments are relevant to this committee. Mr. Potosek will move forward with the last legislature’s resolution, to lease or sell the facility, unless this legislature directs him otherwise.
I think it’s safe to assume that we will soon be treated to yet another presentation depicting the ACC as an enterprise fund, to persuade the legislature of the very high cost of the facility’s services and burden on the taxpayers, from the skewed perspective of the enterprise fund which includes years of debt. This would be a good time to change that and to treat the ACC’s accounting process like any other county department which provides needed services to the county residents. I know that, at least a year ago, the County Manager stated that he would look into the procedure to accomplish this, but, unsurprisingly, nothing more was forthcoming from him. Of course, this information is easily found by AI search engines, and I hope this committee will seriously consider moving forward. Remember, the legislature is supposed to lead the Manager’s office, not the other way around.
Then, there’s the big question of the shortfall payment that the county is owed by Infinitecare, which would come in mighty handy given the sales tax situation. What happens to the shortfall? Has somebody already negotiated that away?
