Specify Compliance with Procurement Procedures:
WHEREAS, the Borscht Belt era refers to a significant period in Sullivan County history that is known nationally and internationally through its portrayal in popular culture; and
WHEREAS, the Borscht Belt Historical Marker Project will designate and commemorate places important to the era's impact on the legacy of the Catskills, will tell unique stories of this famed piece of the American experience, and is intended to create a comprehensive marker system and self-guided driving tour that traverses the region; and
WHEREAS, the large-scale interpretive marker-system will be easily accessible to the public, benefit the communities they are placed in by sparking interest in local history, and educate citizens and visitors alike about the events that have shaped the region's past; and
WHEREAS, the Borscht Belt Historical Marker Project is fully funded by the Jewish American Society for Historic Preservation ("the Society"), a non-profit, volunteer organization whose purpose is to identify and recognize sites of American Jewish Historical interest; and
WHEREAS, the Jewish American Society for Historic Preservation will design, produce, install and maintain the Borscht Belt Historical Markers; and
WHEREAS, the Jewish American Society for Historic Preservation seek assistance from Sullivan County with respect to the text and placement of each marker to be sited in Sullivan County, and will have each marker signed off for accuracy by the Sullivan County Historian; and
