RESOLUTION INTRODUCED BY NADIA RAJSZ, CHAIR OF LEGISLATURE TO SUPPORT A VOTER REFERENDUM TO PURSUE A COUNTY EXECUTIVE FORM OF GOVERNMENT FOR SULLIVAN COUNTY
WHEREAS, Sullivan County (hereinafter “the County”) currently operates under a legislative form of government pursuant to the Municipal Home Rule Law and the County Law of the State of New York and hires a County Manager to run its daily affairs; and
WHEREAS, the County Legislature is the governing body of the County and exercises legislative, executive, and administrative authority over County affairs; and
WHEREAS, the Charter Review Commission of 2017, after much research, recommended in a report (see attached) to the legislature that the County pursue a County Executive form of government by putting this recommendation on referendum for the Sullivan County voters to approve or disapprove creating a position of a County Executive form of government to operate alongside with the legislature; and
WHEREAS, this proposed referendum shall appear on the ballot at the next general election to be held on November 3, 2026.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Sullivan County Legislature hereby approves and supports the recommendation of the Charter Review Commission of 2017 by putting the referendum forward for the voters of Sullivan County to decide the creation of the position of County Executive and a County Executive form of Government.
