BOE Update
* Independent Petitions were filed at the Board of Elections May 20th-May 27th, during which time our office received 18 petitions nominating 25 candidates. As of May 29th, the BOE is in receipt of one (1) objection.

* On the ballot for the June 24, 2025 Primary Election:

Democratic Primary:
Bethel: Council Member
Fallsburg: Member of County Committee, District 3

Republican Primary:
Countywide: Sheriff
Fallsburg: Member of County Committee, District 2
Rockland: Justice

* Number of mail ballots issued for the June Primary (as of 5/28/2025): 1,689
* Number of mail ballots received for the June Primary (as of 5/28/2025): 657

Status of the "Even Year Law"
* Last month, the Appellate Division, Fourth Department ruled:

"It is hereby ORDERED that the order and judgment so appealed from is unanimously reversed on the law without costs, the motions are granted, the decretal paragraphs are vacated, and judgment is granted in favor of defendants State of New York, Kathleen Hochul, in her capacity of Governor of State of New York, and Dustin M. Czarny, in his capacity as Commissioner of Onondaga County Board of Elections as follows:

It is ADJUDGED and DECLARED that chapter 741 of the Laws of 2023 does not violate the New York Constitution or the United States Constitution."

* The case is expected to be heard in the NYS Court of Appeals in September
* The law currently impacts State and Local elections as follows:

The new law primarily impacts town offices (including Town Supervisor, Town Board Member, Town Clerk, and Highway Superintendent), as well as certain county offices (including County Executive, County Comptroller, and County Legislator).
