RESOLUTION INTRODUCED BY PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE AUTHORIZING PAYMENT OF A ONE-TIME STIPEND UTILIZING NEW YORK STATE DIVISION OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE SERVICES AID TO PROSECUTION FUNDING
WHEREAS, the County has been awarded funding through the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) Aid to Prosecution Program to support the enhanced prosecution of repeat, violent, and serious felony offenders; and
WHEREAS, the District Attorney's Office recently concluded a prosecution that required a sustained, multidisciplinary commitment substantially exceeding the demands ordinarily associated with a single felony matter; and
WHEREAS, the prosecution required prosecutors, investigators, victim services personnel, and administrative support staff to conduct extensive evidentiary review, digital evidence analysis, witness coordination, retrial preparation, motion practice, and trial presentation over an extended period while continuing to maintain their regular caseloads and operational responsibilities; and
WHEREAS, internal review determined that the ten employees assigned to this matter collectively devoted approximately 1,500 additional work hours beyond their routine workload obligations in successfully prosecuting the case; and
WHEREAS, the County Legislature recognizes the extraordinary efforts of these employees and finds that a one-time stipend is an appropriate use of available DCJS Aid to Prosecution funding in recognition of the exceptional services provided in furtherance of the grant's purpose of enhancing the prosecution of seri...
