Public Works
Good morning, everybody. I hate to always be the bearer of bad news, but the residents at the Adult Care Center have been eating cold meals off Styrofoam and paper for the last three weeks, because the dishwasher is down again. I’ve seen that there is an RFP being reviewed for the last two months in Purchasing for kitchen equipment repair, and I thought that the county had a good company already engaged to do that, but now I’m told that the wait is because Infinitecare has their own company they prefer to use. I see there is a note about planning to repair this in the Health and Human Services Report. This is ridiculous and somebody should report it to the state, because there are regulations governing the food service which include the temperature of the food. When will the health and safety of the residents ever come first with Infinitecare? It’s the county’s responsibility to repair and maintain the kitchen equipment, not our consultants. Letting them continue to downgrade the facility is just irresponsible. Likewise, there are numerous other kitchen repairs that have been waiting for years, like the pot machine which has been broken for years, and the three bay sink, which is required, and has been purchased, but has not been installed. We’ve talked about this repeatedly over the last years. I remember when the County Manager stated that he was considering leasing a mobile kitchen in order to spend a month really fixing things. Still, here we are. And then there’s the issue of the air conditioning. I was at a meeting yesterday at the ACC and the window was open to cool the room, minus any screen, as the air conditioner was obviously not functioning. Replacing a broken unit with one that is also old is not really effective. I would enjoy the cool time lapse videos of the construction of the airport a lot more if I could see any progress at all being made in capital investment or repairs at our nursing home.
