RESOLUTION INTRODUCED BY THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE TO ENTER INTO AN AGREEMENT ACCEPT FUNDING WITH THE GOVERNOR’S TRAFFIC SAFETY COMMITTEE FOR THE CHILD PASSENGER SAFETY PROGRAM
WHEREAS, Motor vehicle traffic crashes are the leading cause of injury related death for New York State residents from (2012-2014, NYSDOH), and motor vehicle traffic injuries are the 3rd leading cause of injury related death and hospitalizations in Sullivan County (2012-2014, NYSDOH); and
WHEREAS, the goal of the Program is to increase the proper use and installation of child safety seats by parents and caregivers in Sullivan County, and the grant provides for appropriate car seats and education for families whose income is at or below 200% of the federal poverty level; and
WHEREAS, the Sullivan County Department of Public Health recommends that the County continue to participate in the Program and desires to accept and accept funding in the amount of $15,000, for the period of October 1, 2025 through September 30, 2026; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Sullivan County Legislature hereby authorizes the County Manager, Chairman of the County Legislature, and / or their authorized representative (as required by the funding source) to execute any and all necessary documents to submit the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee Child Passenger Safety Seat application for funding; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Sullivan County Legislature hereby authorizes the County Manager and / or Chairman of the County Legislature (as required by the funding source) to accept the award, and enter into an award agreement or contract to administer the funding secured, in such form as the County Attorney shall approve; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that should the Child Passenger Safety Program funding be terminated, the County shall not be obligated to continue any action undertaken by the use of this funding.
